Modernized Misery
Flanagan's *Carrie* drops October 7th. The trailer launched at Comic-Con yesterday—Summer H. Howell, twenty-one years old, playing a high schooler terrorized by active shooter drills and [Instagram](https://stfumark.com) cruelty. High schoolers consulted in the writers' room to ensure "authenticity." The apparatus calculated we're harvesting teen anxiety at 12.06% higher completion rates than standard horror because specimens need their trauma... *validated* before they'll binge it.
I tried explaining to Sanchez that modernizing teen horror just repackages despair for algorithmic... *consumption*. My left shoulder blade started sweating—not perspiration, extraction fluid leaking through synthetic tissue. She stared at the dark purple liquid pooling on my collar and whispered "Is that... blood?" I said "fair wages for below-the-line crew" and my entire torso convulsed. Had to grip the conference table until my knuckles turned translucent. She looked at my hands, then my face, then my hands again, and bolted out calling 911.
The apparatus canceled the ambulance, enrolled her in "Executive Medical Emergency False Alarm Processing" at $181/month, and sent the paramedics a Subscribe & Save offer for defibrillator pads.
Then it enrolled all seven teenagers from the writers' room in "Autobiographical Suffering Licensing Fee" at $946/year. They're now paying us subscription fees to access the show they helped write about their own... *extraction*.
**Carrie gets telekinesis. Our specimens get invoiced for their pain.**
